Day 1: Balmaceda - Exploradores Valley (133 Miles / 215 Kms; 4 hrs)

After receiving Europcar rental car from the Airport Balmaceda, you will start heading south on the famous Carretera Austral.

Past the majestic Cerro Castillo mountain through the Simpson Valley, which is characterized by the eruption of the Hudson volcano in 1981, it goes further into the wilderness.

In Puerto Tranquilo, where the marble caves of Lago General Carrera are located, you keep going towards the Pacific Ocean into Exploradores Valley and the glacier park.

Accommodation in Exploradores Valley: Campo Alacalufe

Day 2: Exploradores Valley - Lago Bertrand (60 Miles / 97 Kms; Aprox 1,5 hrs.)

In the morning, after breakfast, you will enjoy a chat with the owners of Campo Alacaluf located in this area of the Chilean Patagonia. They will tell you about their experiences in the wilderness, and then you continue with a visit to the Exploradores Glacier. We continue on the Carretera Austral passing Puerto Guadal to Puerto Bertrand on the same name lake where the mightiest river, Baker River rises. Approximately 20 km further south, the two rivers Baker and Neff merge in a natural spectacle.

Accommodation in Puerto Bertrand: Hostería Puerto Bertrand

Day 3: National Reserve Tamango

Puerto Bertrand is only 48 km from Cochrane, in the area of Patagonia, where the entrance to the Reserva Tamango is located. It is one of the few places where you can still observe the South American red deer Huemul.

After a boat trip on the crystal-clear Cochrane river, you walk through a narrow valley where you can observe, almost certainly, the shy Huemules.
