1 Night Hotel Loreto***

After breakfast we finish our stay in Santiago with a ride to the  Airport. From here we take a flight to Calama in the Atacama Desert. After arriving this miner´s city we continue to our Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.

4 Nights Hotel Casa de Don Tomas***

Pick up at our hotel to visit the huge salt lake Salar de Atacama. We will start driving south heading for Toconao, a village where the locals manufacture white volcanic stone sculptures. The houses in this small picturesque village are built from the bricks of this white volcanic stone, which lend the town a very unique appearance. The church and its bell tower are also built of this bleached white volcanic stone. After Toconao we continue on to visit the worldÂ’s largest salt lake: the Salar de Atacama. It is an inland sea formed millions of years ago. It is a unique experience to view the vast plain of the octagonal shaped salt crusts in the middle of the driest desert on earth. It is also home to various species of flamingoes as well as many other birds. The Laguna Chaxa, part of the Reserva Nacional de los Flamingoes, offers a terrific opportunity to get close to these birds in their natural habitat. In the afternoon return to your Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama. Back in the Hotel we are able to relax a bit at our room and in the evening we can depart again to visit the Moon Valley during a Half day Excursion. It is part of the Natural Reserve Los Flamencos and about 18 km west of San Pedro, which is administrated by the Atacameño Community. This surreal site is one of the most spectacular in the Atacama Desert and is called this way because of its unique geological formation which reminds strongly of the moon landscape. Here we will explore this marvelous scenery and visit the strange shapes, nature has formed out of salt and clay.

(Breakfast, Lunch)

Around  San Pedro de Atacama  there are several villages and indigenous Atacameño (or Lick-Antay) Communities. These communities are defined by the landuse rights and work with & within the community. These villages are called Ayllu & we will visit one of them today. We drive 5 km to the southwest of San Pedro to the Ayllu de Coyo, where we do visit 2 local families. They do guide us through the community along their ancient paths and telling about their millennia culture. We will learn especially about the local irrigation system, livestock farming and handcraft works.

In the afternoon we will participate in a very special event. We will take part in the traditional Llama caravan where our guide will tell us about this domesticated South American camel.

Our route leads through the typical Pampa Landscape of the Magellanic Region, passing by the tremendous Estancias (Sheep-Farms) of the Patagonia. We will visit the impressing Milodón Cave, where were found remains of a Giant Sloth which lived here 12.000 years ago. In the afternoon we arrive the marvelous Torres del Paine National Park

1 Night Hotel Las Torres ****

The Torres del Paine National Park is without any doubt one of the most impressing landscapes on the American continent.

8-hours-Trekking to Base Las Torres.

Starting our hotel the path leads us up along the foothills of the mountain, offering a view of Rio Ascencio which has formed a valley in-between the mountains. After two hours we reach “Campamento Chileno”, a shelter with sanitary facilities. For another hour we will be hiking along a small path surrounded by unspoiled rain forest. During the walk we learn about the local flora and fauna. So far this was only the warming up! Now that we have left the woods the most strenuous part follows: climbing across rocks and boulders to the lookout “Base Los Torres”, the base of the Paine-Towers. If we feel fit enough, we climb up to the lookout and be impressed by a spectacular view of the Torres del Paine; if we rather enjoy the tranquillity in nature, we relax at the camp. Returning to the hotel we take the same path as before.

As an alternative: Optional Tour Lago Grey

We visit the viewpoint Lago Grey, which allows a marvelous view on the Grey Glacier. Have a glimpse of the parkÂ’s fauna seeing herds of guanacos, foxes, swans, several small-sized birds and with a bit of luck Condors. Afterwards we visit the brawly waterfalls of Salto Grande and Salto Chico, as well as the lovely Laguna Amarga.

After this excursion full of fantastic impressions we will drive back to the Hotel.

Subsequently we depart from the Hotel to Puerto Natales, the small city at the Fiord of Last Hope (Fiordo Última Esperanza)
