LAKE DESTRICT
KAYAKING TO THERMAL SPRINGS IN THE PATAGONIAN FIORDS
(7 Days / 6 Nights)


DAY 1:  ARRIVA AT PUERTO MONTT, TRANSFER TO PUERTO VARAS – TEAMBUILDING & TRIP PLANNING


Upon arrival at Puerto Montt airport we will be welcome by our guide and transferred to our Hotel in Puerto Varas.

In the evening we will meet at the hotel in order to introduce the members of the group and to receive a complete explanation of the trip, it´s logistics, check the gear, information about the tides and winds and their influence in our navigation, potential hazards, emergency plans, rescue procedures, isolation, group and personal requirements, team work and answer last minute questions.

DAY 2: PUERTO VARAS - SEA KAYAK COMAU FJORD - LLANCAHUE HOTSPRINGS
Pick up at your hotel in Puerto Varas at 9AM and drive the Northern Carretera Austral, taking a ferry boat, navigating Reloncaví Fjord with nice views of Yates Volcano, and continue driving to Hornopirén, close to the Hornopirén Volcano and the Hornopirén National Park. From this day ahead we will be always paddling in between 3 volcanoes. Lunch at Hosteria in Hornopirén, safety talk and start paddling the beginning of Comau Fjord always close to the Deer´s Island (Isla de los Ciervos). Late in the afternoon we will arrive at an island where are the Llancahue hotsprings. We will setup our campsite at the beach and after dinner, we will relax at the hotsprings under the stars.


DAY 3: HOTSPRINGS - SEA KAYAKING COMAU & QUINTUPEU FJORD

Early visit to the hotsprings, breakfast, and cross the channel to the mainland for a short visit to the children of a small local school and continue paddling Comau Fjord. After some hours, the we will arrive in the Quintupeu fiord. At the entrance we will stop for a short hike. At the end of the fiord there is a river which we will explore by kayak, depending on the tide. At night, we will camp with a marvelous view on the Andean glaciers just in front of us.


DAY 4: SEA KAYAK TRIP TO CAHUELMÓ FJORD - CAHUELMÓ HOTSPRINGS

We will start paddling very early, passing by the dense vegetation until the entrance of the next fiord. Entering the Cahuelmó fiord, we pass by a colony of sea lions. We will enjoy the view of the mountain's walls disappearing in the sea and later, we will be rewarded with the Cahuelmó hot springs at the end of the fiord.


DAY 5: CAHUELMÓ HOTSPRINGS AND TREKKING
After enjoying our breakfast we will be ready to start the next adventure: hiking towards Abascal lake through thick vegetation. It will be necessary to cross some branches of the river always considering the tides. We will return on time for lunch and for a relaxing bath at Cahuelmo Hot springs.


DAY 6: SEA KAYAK TRIP TO THE END OF COMAU FJORD - PORCELANA HOTSPRINGS
After a very early breakfast we will start paddling before the sunrise or at night, navigating towards the main fjord paddling to the hot waters of a river known as Porcelana Hot springs, a very particular creek of natural hot water emerging from the temperate rain forest.
This is a long day but we will stop for lunch at Huinay, a small fisherman village, sharing with a family of real pioneers (colonos), visiting it´s church made of alerce (larsh) and then continue paddling till arriving finally in the afternoon at the hotsprings where we will setup the campsite and invite for dinner a family of colonos.


DAY 7: NORTHERN PATAGONIA FJORD NAVIGATION - PUERTO VARAS

Breakfast and fisherman boat navigation to Hornopirén enjoying from a different perspective the magnificent area of the Patagonia Fjords. Lunch at a Hosteria in Hornopirén and return to Puerto Varas in the late afternoon.

  


Note: It is recommendable to stay one additional night in Puerto Varas after the expedition in case the return is delayed through weather condition. Satellite telephone, Marine VHF Radio tide on tour. Guide certified by the British Canoe Union as BCU 4 STAR Sea Award, NOLS training and Wilderness First Responder certification. Previous Kayak experience is required. Program can be modified during operation because of weather conditions.
